Hoo Wants to Read About The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel

In this story, we fall into the lives of two teenage twins by the names of Sophie and Josh Newman. Life seems to go on as expected for two teenagers living in San Francisco as you read through the fist couple of chapters. However, things take a turn towards magic and mystery as the two find out that their employers are more than meets the eye. and

Josh employed by Nick Fleming thinks of the man as an ordinary bibliophile who owns his own book store, and is soon convinced otherwise as he sees his boss battling a short man, who he later finds out goes by the name of Dr. John Dee, with his magic. Magic that isn't seen in most fantasy stories as Nick casts his spells from his bare hands that glow a mist like green color and fill the room with an overwhelming smell of sharp mint. Josh finds himself overwhelmed by the scent let off by Nick's magic, but he is utterly disgusted by the short man's dripping yellow magic that smells of sulfur (which smells terrible by the way).

Meanwhile Josh's twin Sophie is across the street working for Nick's wife Perry at a coffee shop, which she loves to work for, and quickly notices something is off as she hears loud noises emitting from her brother's place of employment. Sophie rushes over to the store and witnesses as her boss, Perry, is knocked unconscious by on of Dee's golems, a clay monster created from magic, and is taken away from the scene of the battle into Dee's limousine. Before Dee joins the golem he struggles to rip a book out of Josh's hands, and quickly succeeds in doing so with the help of his magic. Dee escapes with Perry and this mysterious book, and leaves the twins and Nick, and his now ruined shop, in his wake.

Dee uses his magic to paralyze Perry and calls his master, who we later find out is a part of an organization of ancient beings called the Dark Elders, and as he is telling them of his success of obtaining the book. After the incident, the twins bombard questions upon poor Nick who is trying to fit all the pieces together and find a way to retrieve the book and his wife. He explains to the twins that he is really an immortal alchemist, and he and his wife both remain immortal due to an elixir Nicholas brews every month called the Elixir of Life (also known as the philosopher's stone or the Sorcerers Stone in Harry Potter). He informs them though that he and his wife will begin to age, because he no longer has the source of knowledge to brew his potions. The book that Dee stole from them.

We soon find out that the stolen book goes by the name of the Book of Abraham the Mage, or also known as the codex, and that the book's creator was the greatest mage of all time named Abraham. This book contains the greatest spells ever created, and has the potential to end all life on earth, and now John Dee and his elders have it in their possession. Well, not all of it. Because Josh was a stubborn boy and wouldn't let go of the codex and by doing so he ripped a page out of the book. The page that Dee noticed was missing. The crew sets out to find Perenelle and retrieve the codex from Dee in the process. As they start their journey they run into more of Dee's mischief as he uses rats and birds to spy on them. As they continue their journey they recruit a warrior of old by the name of Scathach. Nicholas and Scatty, Scathach's nickname, discuss how importance the twins are, and they agree that Josh and Sophie are the twins of legend that Abraham the Mage prophesied about. Now that they've decided it must be the truth they decide to bring the twins to an Elder, not a part of the dark council, to awaken their magical potential and see if their suspicions are true.
