Great Books to Bring Back to the Nest and Read While Waiting for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child

Here are some books I think would be a hoot to read before the release of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Parts I and II. Coming July 31 2016!

1.

A Darker Shade of Magic Written by V.E. Schwab: This book has a few things similar to Harry Potter. A few things being Magic, Magical Artifacts, London, and a boy who feels like he doesn't quite belong. However, there are many things that differ between the two stories. This tale involves blood magic, multiple realms, deception, and darker shades of magic. Click Here to read more.

2.

The Name of the Wind Written by Patrick Rothfuss: Many people compare this story to Harry Potter because it involves a magical school, and yes it does have that in common with HP, yet It has many things that help it stand alone as a great tale. The magical school aspect brings a fantastic Harry Potter feel to the story, but a big difference is that it is written from a present time and jumps back and forth between now and the days before. This heroic tale part of a 2 part series, so far, offers it's readers a whole new fantasy world as you follow Kvothe through his trials and adventures. Since the story presents itself in the present you're always excited to see how the past leads to the moments and achievements of the now heroic man telling the tale.

3.

The Alchemyst: The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel written by Michael Scott is the first book of a six-part series. Follow the twins Sophie and Josh Newman as they adventure with the famous Alchemist of Legend Nicholas Flamel, the man said to have created the Sorcerers stone in Harry Potter, and other historical characters preserved in time by magic. A dark threat rises as ancient powers known as the dark elders, also characters throughout history, try to seize the ancient codex(book) of Abraham the mage to gain unequal power.

4.

The Magicians written by Lev Grossman is the first of a trilogy of books about a magical school and a boy named Quentin Coldwater who felt like he never fit into the real world. Quentin obsesses with a book series about a land called Fillory, and he always had a gut feeling that he belonged in those books. As time goes on Quentin finds himself at Brakebills a school where magically inclined students, such as himself, study and practice magic. Quentin finally feels like he belongs as he goes to school, yet he can't shake the idea that Fillory is a real place as signs of the book keep appearing before him. A monster appears and begins to cause chaos at the school, and Quentin and his friends are the only ones who are able to stop it. Though this book is similar to Harry Potter I wouldn't suggest it for younger readers, for it has adult scenes and language that is unsuitable for children in my opinion. This is definitely a good read to pick up, and if you enjoy it enough there is also a television series and two other books in the series available as well.
